The Drunk Christian

I found this while going from status to another status on Facebook. Thought it might touch your hearts as well as it did mine. It tells me that GOD IS ALWAYS IN CONTROL.

I can relate to this big time. I think all Christians can because it isn’t just about people who are or use to drink. It is about all who have a problem staying away from what makes them sin.

The Drunk Christian

This past weekend I stumbled and went back to my old ways for a night. My heart is so depraved that I actually justify why I should/can drink actually using the bible as my mediator. And every time I think I have my drinking under control, God shows me that I’m an idiot. So I woke up on Sunday with a ridiculous hangover and a verse stuck in my head. “If your hand or foot causes you to sin cut it off and throw it away.” Now whats interesting about that is I don’t ever wake up with random verses stuck in my head and I also don’t know the exact chapter from where that verse is from, by heart. Where it gets real interesting is I’m going through a bible reading plan and today being the 18th I read Matthew 18 today.. Guess what verse is in Matthew 18?

Matthew 18:7-9 Says.. Woe to the world for temptations to sin! For it is necessary that temptations come, but woe to the one by whom the temptation comes! And if your hand or your foot causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life crippled or lame than with two hands or two feet to be thrown into the eternal fire. And if your eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life with one eye than with two eyes to be thrown into the hell of fire.

I looked up the word in the Greek for cut and it actually means to exterminate.

exterminate – extinction: complete annihilation
– uproot: destroy completely, as if down to the roots

So for me this is what I have to do, I have to put myself in a position to be able to exterminate this thing that causes me to sin. First thing obviously for me would be to not drink period. Me being someone who’s quit drinking probably over 100 times in my life its obvious I can’t quit drinking on my own. I need people around me who check up on me and rebuke me to stay away from situations that will cause that sin to take root again. I need to not put myself in situations that will tempt me to be drawn to that, I know them and I have to have the wisdom and willpower to stay away from them. And I have to make war against any craving I have for alcohol…

So what I’m trying to get across is there are certain people that just can’t do certain things because it always leads to sin. I can’t drink period because it always leads me to sin. So my plea to you is this.. is there anything in your life that you need to exterminate? People, places, or things that seem to always lead you to sin..

Forgiveness can only be granted to those who ask..

Grace and Peace to you!!
